Observed climate conditions for June to September (JJAS) 2024
Rainfall
Moderate to high rainfall amounts of exceeding 800mm was observed in northwestern, western and parts of central Ethiopia, and in northwestern South Sudan.
Moderate rainfall amounts of between 201-800mm were observed in much of South Sudan, in southern parts of Sudan, in western Eritrea, in northern, western and central Ethiopia, several parts of Uganda, and in western Kenya.
Light rainfall between 11 - 200 mm was observed in the northern parts of Sudan, in coastal, central and southern parts of Eritrea, in much of Djibouti, in northwestern and southeastern Somalia, in northeastern and south-central Ethiopia and eastern margins of central Ethiopia, in southwestern Uganda, in northwestern, parts of western, central and coastal Kenya, in several parts of Rwanda and Burundi, and in northwestern and eastern Tanzania.
No rainfall or less than 10mm was observed in northern parts of Sudan, in southeastern Ethiopia in parts of northeastern and central Somalia, in northeastern, eastern, central and southern parts of Kenya, and in several parts of Tanzania.
Drier than usual and much drier than usual conditions were observed in parts of northern and central Somalia, in southeastern Ethiopia, in northeastern, southeastern and coastal Kenya, in several parts of Rwanda and Burundi, and in parts of northwestern, western, central and southern Tanzania
Wetter than usual and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in much of northern to central Sudan, in western and central Eritrea, in several parts of Djibouti, in northeastern part of Somalia, and in northeastern and southwestern parts of Ethiopia.
No rain condition was observed in northeastern Kenya, and western, central and southwestern Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
Moderately dry to severely dry conditions were observed in isolated parts of south-central and southeastern Sudan, northwestern, north-central and northeastern South Sudan, in western and southeastern Ethiopia, in southern Eritrea, in several parts of Somalia, in western, northeastern, eastern, southeastern and coastal Kenya, in southwestern and southeastern Uganda, in much of Rwanda and Burundi, and in several parts of Tanzania.
Moderate to extremely wet rainfall conditions were observed in the northern to central parts of Sudan, in western and central parts of Eritrea, in several parts of Djibouti, in northeastern, central and southwestern parts of Ethiopia, in northwestern Somalia, in southwestern and southeastern parts of South Sudan, and in northwestern Uganda
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
