Observed rainfall conditions for March to May (MAM) 2023
Rainfall
Moderate to heavy rainfall between 500 - 1000 mm was observed over southwestern Ethiopia, in western, central and coastal parts of Kenya, in southeastern Uganda, in western Rwanda, over much of Burundi, and in northwestern, coastal and southern parts of Tanzania.
Moderate rainfall between 200 - 500 mm were observed in southwestern and southern parts of South Sudan, in central and parts of eastern and southern Ethiopia, in southern Somalia, over several parts of Uganda, in parts of western, central eastern and coastal Kenya, in eastern and central Rwanda, and in northern western, eastern and southern Tanzania.
Light rainfall between 10 - 200 mm was observed in southern parts of Sudan, in much of Eritrea, Djibouti, north and central Somalia, in northern, central and eastern South Sudan, in northern and eastern parts of Ethiopia, in northwestern and eastern Kenya, and in central parts of Tanzania.
Dry conditions (usual during this time of the year) were observed in much of Sudan.
Wetter than and much wetter than usual conditions were observed central and southern parts of Eritrea, in much of Djibouti, in northeastern, central southern and part of eastern Ethiopia, in northern and eastern parts of Kenya, in northwestern and southwestern Somalia, in southern Burundi, an din western and southwestern Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in western and eastern parts of Sudan, in much of South Sudan, in western Eritrea, in eastern Ethiopia, in northeastern, central and southern parts of Somalia, in western central and southern Kenya, in much of Uganda and Rwanda, in northern Burundi, and in northern, central eastern and southeastern Tanzania.
Drier than and much drier than usual conditions were observed in parts of central and southern parts of Sudan, in northern parts of South Sudan, and in northwestern Ethiopia.
Moderate to severely wetter than usual rainfall conditions were observed in central and southern parts of Eritrea, in much of Djibouti, northeastern, central, southern and parts of eastern Ethiopia, in northwestern and southwestern Somalia, in northern and eastern parts of Kenya, in western Rwanda, in several parts of Burundi, and in western and southwestern Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in western parts of Eritrea, in parts of eastern Ethiopia, in several areas in Somalia, in western, central and southern Kenya, in several parts of Uganda, in parts of western South Sudan, in eastern and southern Rwanda, and in much of central northern eastern and southern Tanzania.
Moderately drier than usual to severely dry conditions were observed in southern parts of Sudan, in northern, eastern, and southern parts of South Sudan, in a few places in northern, eastern and south-central Uganda, and in a few areas in eastern Tanzania.
