Regional Climate Models

The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model

How do we do our forecasts?

Regional Climate Models (RCMs) are similar to Global Climate Models (GCMs) in the sense that they are mathematical representations for the climate system. However, they are run and implemented over a limited area (over a regional domain instead of a global one).

ICPAC uses the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) to produce short-term weather forecasts and detailed characteristics of the seasonal rainfall such as ht onset and cessation of the seasonal rainfall, number, length, and timing of the dry spells within the season.
