The effects of climate change, including its contribution to disaster risk, are impacting people’s lives and human mobility. In many cases, this is resulting in new patterns of human mobility1 within countries and across national borders, including migration, displacement and planned relocation away from increasingly uninhabitable areas. The most vulnerable people in society are among the most harshly affected by climate change and disasters. On the African continent, as in many other parts of the world, the effects of extreme weather events and slow-onset disasters interact with other drivers of displacement, including conflict, violence and persecution, triggering or exacerbating displacement.
