Observed rainfall conditions for March to May (MAM) 2024
Rainfall
High rainfall amounts exceeding 1000mm was observed in a few areas in central Kenya and in southern coast of Tanzania.
Moderate to high rainfall amounts of between 500-1000mm were observed in southwestern part of Ethiopia, in western and central parts of Kenya, in southern and western Burundi, and in southern and coastal parts of Tanzania.
Moderate rainfall between 100 - 500 mm was observed in several parts of South Sudan, Ethiopia, in central and southern Somalia, in much of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, and in several parts of Kenya and Tanzania.
Light rainfall between 10 - 100 mm was observed in several parts of Eritrea and Djibouti, in southern parts of Sudan, in northern parts of South Sudan, in parts of northern and northeastern Ethiopia and in northeastern parts of Somalia.
Dry conditions of no rainfall less than 10mm was observed in much of Sudan.
Drier than usual and much drier than usual conditions were observed in several parts of Sudan and South Sudan, in parts of western Eritrea, in northeastern Somalia, in northwestern Ethiopia, and in northwestern parts of Uganda.
Wetter than usual and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in Djibouti, in southern parts of Eritrea, in central and southern Somalia, in parts of northeast, central, southern and southeastern Ethiopia, in southeastern South Sudan, in several parts of northern, central, eastern and south-central Kenya, in northeastern Uganda, and in western and southern parts of Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in northwestern and central Eritrea, in several parts of northeastern and central Ethiopia, in parts of northern and southern Somalia, in western and southwestern South Sudan, in several parts of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, in western, southeastern and coastal parts of Kenya, and in several parts of Tanzania.
No rain condition was observed in northern and central parts of Sudan.
Moderately dry to extremely dry conditions were observed in several parts of Sudan, in western parts of Eritrea, in several parts of South Sudan, in northeastern Somalia, in western and northwestern parts of Ethiopia, in much of western Uganda, in several parts of Rwanda and in central and southwestern parts of Tanzania.
Moderate to extremely wet rainfall conditions were observed in Djibouti, in southern Eritrea, in northeastern, southern and southeastern Ethiopia, in central and parts of southern Somalia, in several parts of Kenya, in southern Burundi, and in northwestern and southeastern Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
