Standardized Precipitation Index

Moderately wet to extremely wet conditions were observed in parts of western and southeastern Uganda, in much of Burundi, in southwestern Rwanda, in western and southern part of Kenya, and in much of northeastern, central eastern, coastal and southern Tanzania.

Moderately dry to severely dry conditions were observed in western parts of Tanzania.

Usual rainfall conditions were observed in much of the rest of the region.

Recent rainfall anomalies

Wetter than and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in much of Burundi, in much of northeastern, eastern, southern and central Tanzania, in western and southern Kenya, and in northwestern, western and southeastern parts of Uganda.

Drier than usual conditions were observed in parts of central, northeastern and southwestern Ethiopia, in northwestern Uganda, in much of central, eastern and coastal Kenya, and in part of western Tanzania.

Usual rainfall conditions were observed in some parts of central and northern Ethiopia, coastal and central Eritrea, in parts of central and southwestern Uganda, in several parts of Rwanda, and in northwestern and western parts of Tanzania.

No rainfall conditions were observed in much of Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti, western Eritrea, in western, northwestern and eastern Ethiopia, and in much of northern Kenya.

Recent rainfall totals

Heavy rainfall exceeding 200 mm occurred in the southwestern part of Tanzania.

Moderate to heavy rainfall of between 51-200 mm was observed in much of Burundi, in southwestern parts of Kenya, and in several parts of Tanzania

Moderate rainfall of between 26 - 50 mm was observed in western Rwanda, in western and southern parts of Kenya, and in northwestern and western Tanzania.

Light rainfall of between 6- 25 mm occurred in southwestern Ethiopia, in several parts of western, central and southern Uganda, in central parts of Kenya and in eastern Rwanda.

Rainfall less than 5mm was observed in much of Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, South Sudan, northern and northeastern Uganda, and several parts of northern, eastern and coastal Kenya.
