GEOGLAM Crop Monitor Learning Exchange: Establishing and Strengthening the Capacity for a National and Regional Crop Monitor Analysts Network in Eastern Africa
Statement of Purpose – The Regional Capacity Strengthening Initiative
The purpose of the initiative is to enhance regional agriculture monitoring through ‘The GEOGLAM Crop Monitor Network of National Analysts in Africa’. To achieve this objective, GEOGLAM, through its regional partner ICPAC, is developing a series of activities to capacitate the regional information network, improve technical support, and build the capacity of the Ministries of Agriculture from IGAD States and other mid-/low-income countries in the use of satellite and weather information to enhance food security and resilience in the region. This core network will also be the direct source of information from the national network that informs the Crop Monitor for Early Warning.
GEOGLAM is committed to providing technical support throughout the process and continuing to liaise with local, regional, and international organizations interested in supporting these efforts, with the aim of establishing and maintaining a cohesive group of GEOGLAM crop monitor champions from all interested and active countries.
