GMES & Africa Eastern Africa Regional Workshop
GMES & Africa Eastern Africa Regional Workshop organised by ICPAC in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Mapping and Resources Development (RCMRD) and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) took place in Antananarivo, Madagascar. The event is part of the GMES & Africa Programme co-financed by the European Commission and the African Union Commission, aimed to promote sustainable management of natural resources through Earth Observation (EO) technologies.
The workshop gathered stakeholders from East Africa to explore the potential of GMES & Africa and foster collaboration for sustainable development. It focused on raising awareness, fostering collaboration, sharing case studies, identifying priorities, and building capacity in using EO data.
Key objectives included engaging stakeholders, creating a platform for knowledge exchange, sharing EO applications for addressing environmental challenges, and equipping participants with skills to use EO data and tools. The event successfully engaged decision-makers, partners, international and regional organizations, and the private sector in discussions on leveraging EO for sustainable development.
The workshop identified opportunities for collaboration and provided valuable feedback for aligning GMES & Africa products and services with regional needs.
