Regional Training Workshop on Climate Change Resource Mobilization
The Resilience of the IGAD region to the adverse Impacts of Climate Change through effective Adaptation and Mitigation Actions (RICCAMA) is organizing for a regional training workshop to introduce participants to climate finance governance structure and climate finance resource mobilization.
The workshop will bring together climate change experts, officials from ministries of environment in charge of climate change, staff from climate change units within various ministries and decision makers from key sector ministries involved in National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement implementation and from ministries of finance and planning (with key roles in the budgetary process).
The objective of the workshop is to strengthen capacity of IGAD/ICPAC staff and Member States in climate finance resource mobilization. In particular, the workshop aims to:
- Review climate change financing instruments/tools and mechanisms
- Provide an overview of the global state of climate change financing
- Exchange information on climate finance flows and needs at the regional and national levels,
- Identify opportunities in assessing and addressing the needs of IGAD Member States in access of climate finance
- Develop recommendations to unlock IGAD and member states potential to increase climate change funding
The regional training workshop and cross-learning will allow Member States’ participants share experiences, ideas and critical reflections around session themes with regard to various aspects of climate change financial implementation such as institutional arrangements and organizational structures, determination of the financial, technological and capacity building support needed and access to climate finance.
The workshop outputs are:
A follow-up training on climate change resource mobilization will be organized to train staff of IGAD/ICPAC and member states in preparation and formulation of bankable project proposals.
