Training on the Use and Interpretation of ECMWF Open Products
Recently, the European Centre for Medium-Range Forecasts (ECMWF) has made a generous effort on data sharing, opening its forecast products freely to the public. ECMWF is a world-leading forecast centre providing high-quality weather and climate forecasts at regional and global scales. The centre produces a range of products that can support the provision of numerous weather and climate services. If used and interpreted well, the products can help to reduce the risk of hydrometeorological hazards in vulnerable regions.
ICPAC in collaboration with the User Services Unit of ECMWF organizes a virtual training for weather and climate forecasters in East Africa on accessing, using, and interpreting open ECMWF products. The overall aim of the training is to introduce the forecasters to the products that are available freely on ECMWF’s platform and their interpretations. The content of the training will focus on weather and climate parameters related to the East African region.
The objectives of the training:
- Learn how to access, use and interpret ECMWF forecast that is freely available
- Learn how to access, interpret and benefit from WMO essential data weather forecasts data available for the NMHSs
