Youth for Climate Action Campaign and Awards 2025
Youth across the IGAD region have increasingly taken active roles in climate action, particularly in disseminating climate information, promoting environmental awareness, and championing local solutions. Their energy, creativity, and innovation are essential for building a sustainable future. Recognising this, ICPAC is launching the Youths for Climate Action Campaign, supported by ClimSA, to celebrate and amplify the impact of young people making a difference through climate communication and engagement.
Campaign Format and Categories
The campaign invites young people under the age of 35 from the IGAD region to submit stories, photos, or short videoshighlighting their role in climate information dissemination, climate education, or community-based climate solutions.
The awards will be presented in five categories:
- Under 18 years – Outstanding contribution to climate education or awareness at the school/community level.
- Ages 18–24 – Youth-led initiatives that demonstrate innovation in climate action or communication.
- Ages 25–35 – Young professionals or community leaders advocating and implementing climate solutions.
- Short Video/Animation (under 35) – Creative storytelling or explainer videos that highlight climate services, early warning systems, or local adaptation efforts.
- Photography (under 35) – Capturing the realities of climate impacts or resilience practices through impactful imagery.
Key Dates
- Deadline for Submissions: 30th April 2025
- Announcement of Winners: 6th May 2025
- Award Ceremony: 20th May 2025
Eligibility Criteria
- Participants must be citizens of an IGAD member state.
- All participants in the video and photography categories must be under 35.
- Entries must be original and relevant to climate services, solutions, adaptation or awareness.
- The climate stories/videos/photos/animations must have been done before the call for submissions.
- Collaborative submissions are allowed, but only one prize will be awarded per winning entry.
