Temperature
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than average temperatures expected in western parts of Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, and most parts of Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
- Colder than average temperatures forecasted in eastern Sudan, most parts of Eritrea and Somalia, parts of eastern Ethiopia and Kenya.
Rainfall anomalies
- Wetter than average conditions expected over eastern regions of Sudan, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, and parts of north-western Eritrea and central Ethiopia.
- Drier than average conditions predicted over parts of south-eastern Sudan, western Ethiopia, central to southern South Sudan, northern Uganda, and western Kenya.
Exceptional rainfall
- Extremely heavy (top 1%) rainfall expected over parts of South Kurdufan and White Nile states in southern Sudan, and a few areas in southern Afar of Ethiopia.
- Heavy to very heavy (top 10-5%) rainfall expected over parts of eastern Sudan, north-eastern South Sudan, north-western Eritrea, and northern Ethiopia.
Mean temperature
- Hot conditions ( above 32 ℃) expected over central and northern Sudan, north-eastern Afar in Ethiopia, coastal Eritrea, and north-western coastal regions of Somalia.
- Moderate (between 20 - 32 ℃) expected over southern, western and coastal Sudan, South Sudan, most parts of Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia, northern and eastern Kenya, northern Uganda, and parts of south-eastern and north-western Tanzania.
- Cold conditions (less than 20℃) expected in central Ethiopia, southern Uganda, western Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and most parts of Tanzania.
Total rainfall
- Heavy rainfall (above 200mm) expected in a few places in central and western Ethiopia and southern Sudan.
- Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over central to northern Ethiopia, north-western Eritrea, eastern and southern Sudan, and northern and eastern South Sudan.
- Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over parts of southern Tanzania, coastal and central Kenya, southern and northern Somalia, Djibouti, southern Eritrea, northern and western Sudan, and southern Ethiopia.
- Dry conditions expected over Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, central to western Tanzania, northern and eastern Kenya, central Somalia, south-eastern Ethiopia.
