Temperature
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than average temperatures expected over most parts of the GHA especially Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and western Kenya.
- Near average temperatures expected over most parts of southern Sudan, northern and eastern South Sudan, eastern Kenya, central to southern Somalia, eastern Uganda, and south-eastern Ethiopia.
- Colder than average temperatures predicted in isolated parts across the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA).
Rainfall anomalies
- Wetter than average conditions expected over most parts of central and southern Sudan, central and north-eastern South Sudan, northern Uganda, central and western Kenya, northern Ethiopia, and most parts of Eritrea.
- Drier than average conditions predicted over parts of western South Sudan, south-western Sudan, central Ethiopia, and northern Somalia.
Exceptional rainfall
- Heavy to very heavy (top 10-5%) rainfall expected over eastern Sudan, north-western Eritrea, northern Ethiopia, and parts of northern Uganda.
Mean temperatures
- Hot conditions (above 32 ℃) expected over northern Sudan, parts of Afar region of Ethiopia, and northern coastal regions of Eritrea and Somalia.
- Moderate temperatures (20 - 32 ℃) expected over most parts of Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, eastern and northern Kenya, eastern and south-eastern Ethiopia, northern Uganda, and most parts of Tanzania.
- Cold conditions (less than 20℃) expected in central to southern Ethiopia, parts of central to western Kenya, southern Uganda, western Rwanda and Burundi, and parts of central Tanzania.
Total rainfall
- Heavy rainfall (above 200mm) predicted over parts of western Ethiopia and northern Uganda.
- Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over central to western South Sudan, central and western Uganda, parts of western Kenya and western Ethiopia, and Eritrea.
- Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over central Sudan, eastern Ethiopia, Djibouti, northern and southern Somalia, parts of central, coastal and western Kenya, eastern Tanzania, and most parts of Rwanda.
- Dry conditions expected over northern Sudan, central Somalia into southern Ethiopia, eastern and northern Kenya, and most parts of Tanzania and Burundi.
