Temperature
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than usual temperatures expected in the eastern and southern parts of the region.
- Cooler than usual temperatures predicted over parts of central to northern Sudan, eastern South Sudan, and a few areas of eastern Kenya.
Rainfall anomalies
- Wetter than usual conditions expected over parts of central Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, eastern Tanzania, a few isolated areas in southern Ethiopia, and northern Somalia.
- Drier than usual conditions forecasted over western and northern Tanzania and a few areas in western Rwanda and Burundi.
Exceptional rainfall
- Heavy (top 10%) rainfall is expected in southern Tanzania and cross-border areas of Kenya and Tanzania.
Mean temperatures
- Moderate temperatures (20 - 32 ℃) expected over southern parts of Sudan, South Sudan, central to northern Uganda, Tanzania, northern and eastern Kenya, most parts of Somalia, Djibouti, south-eastern and north-eastern Ethiopia, and western and coastal parts of Eritrea.
- Cold conditions (less than 20℃) expected over central to northern Sudan, southern to northern Ethiopia, central Eritrea, parts of northern Somalia, southern Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, central to western Kenya, and isolated areas in northern and south-western Tanzania.
Total rainfall
- Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over most parts of Tanzania, Burundi, and parts of central Rwanda and Kenya.
- Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over coastal and central Kenya, southern Uganda, northern Tanzania, the Red Sea coast of Somalia, and a few areas in south-western Ethiopia.
- Dry conditions expected over most parts of Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, northern Uganda, north-eastern Kenya, and parts of central Somalia.
