Advisory: Considering the rainfall events during the past week over some areas in Somalia and the expected heavy to exceptionally-heavy rainfall over the country during this week, all the stakeholders are advised to take the appropriate measures.
- Exceptionally heavy rainfall (within the top 1% on record of weekly rainfall) is expected over limited areas in eastern and central Somalia.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (within the top 10% - 5% on record of weekly rainfall) is expected in parts of central to northern Somalia, eastern Ethiopia, and limited areas in central Kenya.
- Warmer daily-mean temperatures above 28oC is expected in southern Sudan, Afar region of Ethiopia, and northern Kenya.
- Moderate daily-mean temperatures between 20-28oC is expected in wider part of Sudan and South Sudan; eastern part of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia; southern and central Tanzanian, and Uganda.
- Relatively cold daily-mean temperatures below 20oC is expected in central Ethiopian highlands, western Kenya, southern Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.
The onset of the season is expected to start during this week.
- Heavy rainfall above 200 mm is expected in the eastern coast of Somalia and localized areas in western Kenya.
- Moderate rainfall between 50-200 mm is expected in parts of western and south-western Ethiopia, southern part of South Sudan, northern and central Somalia, western Kenya, most parts of Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and northern Tanzania.
- Light rainfall less than 50 mm is expected in northern parts of South Sudan, north-western and southern Ethiopia, southern Somalia, central and eastern Kenya, and central and southern Tanzania.
- Dry conditions are expected in much of Sudan, Eritrea, central and north-eastern Ethiopia, Djibouti, and north-western Somalia.
