Temperature
Exceptional rainfall
- Very heavy rainfall (rainfall amounts exceeding the top 5% on record) expected in parts of central, eastern and western Sudan, central to north-eastern Ethiopia, much of Eritrea, and Djibouti.
Floods Update
- The expected very heavy rainfall over few places in parts of central, eastern and western Sudan, central to north-eastern Ethiopia, much of Eritrea, and Djibouti is likely to lead to floods.
- Communities in the areas at risk are advised to exercise caution during this period.
Rainfall anomalies
- More than usual rainfall expected over parts of central, eastern and western Sudan, central and southern South Sudan, much of Eritrea, northern and north-eastern Ethiopia, Djibouti, parts of northern Uganda and western Kenya.
- Less than usual rainfall expected over parts of eastern and western South Sudan, south-western Sudan, and a few regions in central and western Ethiopia.
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than usual temperatures expected over most parts of the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA).
- Cooler than usual temperatures expected over central Sudan and parts north-eastern Ethiopia and Somalia.
Mean temperatures
- High temperatures (above 32℃) expected over northern Sudan, north-eastern Ethiopia and coastal regions of Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti and north-western Somalia.
- Moderate to high temperatures (20-32℃) expected over most parts of central to southern Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, northern and eastern Kenya, Somalia, and western and eastern Tanzania.
- Mild temperature conditions (less than 20℃) expected over western Rwanda, Burundi, parts of northern to southern Tanzania, central to south-western Kenya and western Ethiopia.
Heat Stress
- Elevated levels of heat stress expected in northern Sudan, coastal regions of north-west Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, and north-eastern Ethiopia.
Total rainfall
- Heavy rainfall (above 200mm) expected over parts of central and northern Ethiopia, western Eritrea and eastern Sudan.
- Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over most parts of central to northern Uganda, western Kenya, much of South Sudan, central, western and northern Ethiopia, Eritrea and central and southern regions of Sudan.
- Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected in coastal regions of Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, and parts of south-eastern Ethiopia and northern Somalia.
