On June 17th 2021, IGAD organized a virtual Ministerial conference on the sustainable management of desert locusts and other transboundary pests in the IGAD Region. The conference followed a series of studies conducted by the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the French Development Agency and recommendations from IGAD technical and Ministerial meetings on Desert Locust held in 2020.

The conference facilitated consensus building on a set of actionable recommendations around a desirable setting in the Greater Horn of Africa and neighboring countries to monitor, prevent and respond to future desert locust and other transboundary pest outbreaks.

The outcome of the conference was an endorsement by the IGAD Ministers of Agriculture, of a route map to sustainably and efficiently manage and control desert locusts and other transboundary pests.
