Recent rainfall totals
  • Heavy rainfall between 300 - 500 mm was observed over highlands of central Ethiopia.
  • Moderate rainfall between 200 -300 mm was observed in much of north-western South Sudan, isolated parts in southern and northern Darfour, and the Highlands of central and northern Ethiopia.
  • Light rainfall between 100 - 200 mm was observed in most parts of South Sudan, northern and central parts of Sudan, north-western Eritrea, eastern and northern Uganda, and the Highlands of western Kenya.
  • Rainfall between 10-100 mm was observed over southern and western Uganda, northern and costal parts of Kenya, southern Somalia, Afar region of Ethiopia, most parts of Djibouti, and southern Eritrea.
  • Dry conditions (usual during this time of the year) in most parts of Tanzania, Burundi, eastern Rwanda, and southern and lower eastern parts of Kenya.
Recent rainfall anomalies
  • Much wetter than usual conditions were observed in northern Darfour and central parts of Sudan.
  • Wetter than usual conditions were observed in much of the central parts of Sudan and north-eastern Ethiopia.
  • Usual rainfall conditions were observed everywhere in South Sudan, southern parts of Sudan, central and western Ethiopia, eastern and northern Uganda, western and lower eastern Kenya, and southern parts of Somalia.
  • Moderately drier than usual conditions were observed in south-western and western Uganda; Kwale, Samburu and Marsabit sub-counties of Kenya; and an isolated part of central Ethiopia.
  • Much drier than usual conditions were observed over isolated area in south-western Uganda.
Standardized Precipitation Index
  • Moderately wetter than usual to severely wet conditions were observed in most of the central parts of Sudan and north-eastern Ethiopia.
  • Usual rainfall conditions were observed in most parts of southern and central South Sudan, southern parts of Sudan, central and western Ethiopia, eastern and northern Uganda, western and lower eastern Kenya, and southern parts of Somalia.
  • Moderately drier than usual to severely dry conditions were observed in south-western, western and north-western parts of Uganda; Kwale, Samburu and Marsabit sub-counties of Kenya; and an isolated part in central Ethiopia.
