Observed climate conditions for July to September (JAS) 2025
Rainfall
Moderate to high rainfall amounts of exceeding 500mm was observed in a few areas in central and western parts of Ethiopia, a few pockets in western Sudan and South Sudan, and in parts of western Kenya.
Moderate rainfall amounts of between 201-500mm were observed in a wide band surrounding the darkest green area, covering most of countries highlighted above.
Light rainfall between 11 - 200 mm was observed in several parts of northern Sudan, Eritrea, in northeastern, central, eastern and southern Ethiopia, in northern and southern parts of Somalia, in southern Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, in western and coastal parts of Kenya, and in northern western and coastal parts of Tanzania.
No rainfall or less than 10mm was observed in northern Sudan, central Tanzania, southeastern Ethiopia, several parts in Somalia, northeastern parts of Kenya, and central and southern parts of Tanzania.
Moderately dry to severely dry conditions were observed in several pockets in northern Sudan and western South Sudan, southern Uganda, several pockets in Tanzania, much of the eastern half of Kenya, much of central to southern Somalia, and southeastern Ethiopia.
Moderate wet to severely wet rainfall conditions were observed in southwestern Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, much of northern Sudan, eastern Sudan, northwestern Kenya and a few pockets in Rwanda and Burundi.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
Drier than usual conditions were observed in a few pockets in the northern parts of Sudan, in southeastern Ethiopia extending to northern and central Somalia, northeastern parts of Kenya, southwestern parts of Uganda and several parts of Tanzania.
Wetter than and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in coastal, pockets in the northern and northwestern parts of Tanzania, in Burundi, southwestern regions of Ethiopia bordering South Sudan and Kenya, pockets of northwestern Kenya, Djibouti, Eritrea and several parts in northern Sudan.
No rain condition was observed in several parts of central Tanzania, and northeastern parts of Kenya.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in much of the rest of the region.
