Observed climate conditions for June to August (JJA) 2024
Rainfall
Moderate to high rainfall amounts of exceeding 800mm was observed in a few isolated areas in northwestern and western Ethiopia, and in part of western Sudan and northwestern South Sudan.
Moderate rainfall amounts of between 200-800mm were observed in the central to southern parts of Sudan, in much of South Sudan, in several parts of norther, western and central Ethiopia, in western Eritrea, in several parts of northern, western, central and eastern Uganda, and in parts of western Kenya.
Light rainfall between 10 - 200 mm was observed in the northern parts of Sudan, in coastal, central and southern parts of Eritrea, in much of Djibouti, in northwestern and southeastern Somalia, in northeastern Ethiopia, and eastern margins of central Ethiopia, in southwestern Uganda, in northwestern, parts of western, central and coastal Kenya, in several parts of Rwanda, and in northeastern Tanzania.
No rainfall or less than 10mm was observed in northern parts of Sudan, in coastal Djibouti, in parts of northern and central Somalia, in southern and southeastern Ethiopia, in northern, northeastern, eastern, central and southern parts of Kenya, and in several parts of Burundi and Tanzania.
Drier than usual and much drier than usual conditions were observed in parts of northern and central Somalia, in southeastern Ethiopia, in the general eastern parts of Kenya, in much of Rwanda and Burundi, in southwestern Uganda, and in in much of western and in parts of northern Tanzania.
Wetter than usual and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in much of northern to central Sudan, in western and central Eritrea and much of Djibouti, in parts of northeastern Ethiopia, and in isolated parts of southeastern South Sudan, southwestern Ethiopia, and northwestern Kenya.
No rain condition was observed in parts of northern Somalia, northeastern Kenya, and western, central and southwestern Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
Moderate to extremely wet rainfall conditions were observed in the northern, central parts and southwestern Sudan, in western and central parts of Eritrea, in several parts of Djibouti, in northern and northeastern Ethiopia, in northwestern Somalia, in southern parts of South Sudan, in parts of western and south-central Uganda, and the northern coast of Tanzania.
Moderately dry to severely dry conditions were observed in isolated parts of south-central and southeastern Sudan, northwestern, north-central and northeastern South Sudan, in western and southeastern Ethiopia, in northern and central Somalia, in northeastern, eastern, southeastern and coastal Kenya, in much of Rwanda and Burundi, and in northwestern, western and southern Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
