Observed rainfall conditions for June to August (JJA) 2023
Rainfall
Moderate to heavy rainfall greater than 500mm was western Ethiopia, parts of southwestern Sudan, in western parts of South Sudan, and in a few areas in western Kenya.
Moderate rainfall between 100 - 500 mm was in the southern parts of Sudan, in western Eritrea, in much of western, northern and central Ethiopia, in several parts of South Sudan, in much of Uganda, and in parts of western and coastal Kenya.
Light rainfall between 10 - 100 mm was observed in western, central to eastern Sudan, in coastal, central and southern Eritrea, in much of Djibouti, in northeastern eastern Ethiopia, in northwest and southern parts of Somalia, in a few areas in central Kenya, in southwestern Uganda, in western Rwanda, and in northern and eastern parts of Tanzania.
Dry conditions were observed in northern parts of Sudan, in coastal Eritrea, in parts of northern and central Somalia, in northern, central, southern and eastern parts of Kenya, in eastern Rwanda, much of Djibouti, and in several parts of Tanzania.
Wetter than and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in a few areas in western, central and eastern Sudan.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in much of the central and southern parts of Sudan, in western Eritrea, in northwestern and western Ethiopia, in much of South Sudan, in northwestern, central and southeastern Uganda, in parts of western and coastal parts of Kenya, and in eastern parts of Tanzania.
Drier than and much drier than usual conditions was in the parts of northern Sudan, in central and southern parts of Eritrea, in several parts of Djibouti, in much of Ethiopia, Somalia, Rwanda and Burundi, in southern parts of South Sudan, several parts of Kenya, and in northwestern and southern parts of Tanzania
Moderately dry to extremely dry conditions were observed in several parts of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi, in northern parts of Sudan, in central and southern parts of Eritrea, and in northern and southern parts of Tanzania.
Moderate to severely wetter than usual rainfall conditions were in a few areas in western, central and eastern Sudan, northwestern Eritrea, and western part of Ethiopia.
Usual rainfall conditions were in the rest of the region.
