Rainfall

Recent rainfall totals
  • Heavy to moderate rainfall between 50 - 100 mm was observed in south-western South Sudan; in isolated areas of north-western, west and south-western Uganda; and in isolated areas of central Kenya and western Rwanda.
  • Light rainfall between 25 - 50 mm was observed in south-western parts of South Sudan, central Kenya, western Burundi, and south-western Rwanda.
  • Rainfall between 5 - 25 mm was observed in southern parts of South Sudan, over southern and eastern Ethiopia, southern Somalia; western, central and costal parts of Kenya; much of eastern Rwanda, and south-eastern Burundi.
  • Usual dry (usually dry in this time of season) was observed over most parts of of Sudan, Eritrea, western Djibouti; northern, eastern and central Ethiopia; northern and central parts of South Sudan; central and southern Somalia; Karamoja region of Uganda, Turkana region of Kenya, and in several parts of central and southern Tanzania.
Recent rainfall anomalies
  • Much wetter than usual conditions were observed in central and south-western South Sudan and red sea parts of Sudan.
  • Wetter than usual conditions were observed in isolated areas in southern and north-western Uganda.
  • Usual rainfall conditions were observed in a few isolated parts in central South Sudan, central and north-eastern Ethiopia, northern Eritrea, south-western and central Uganda, and western Rwanda.
  • Moderately drier than usual conditions were observed in western South Sudan, southern Ethiopia, everywhere in Kenya and Burundi, southern Somalia, much of eastern and northern Rwanda, and north-eastern and northern Tanzania.
  • Much drier than usual conditions were observed over isolated areas in southern Ethiopia, southern Somalia, western Kenya, Karamoja region, eastern Uganda, and southern and central Tanzania.

  • Moderately to severely wetter than usual conditions were observed in central and south-western South Sudan and red seas parts of Sudan.
  • Usual rainfall conditions were observed in a few isolated parts in central South Sudan, central and north-eastern Ethiopia, northern Eritrea, south-western and central Uganda, and western Rwanda.
  • Moderately to severely drier than usual conditions were observed over isolated areas in southern Ethiopia, southern Somalia, western Kenya, Karamoja region, eastern Uganda, and southern and central Tanzania.
