Recent rainfall totals

High Rainfall Accumulation (Light Green to Dark Green)

  • Highest Rainfall (101–200 mm & 201–300 mm): These values are extremely high for a 10-day period. Rainfall amounts between 101 and 300 mm was observed in southwestern parts of the region including western Uganda, western Rwanda, Burundi, western and localized areas along the coast of Tanzania and a few areas in central Kenya.
  • Significant Rainfall (26–50 mm & 51–100 mm): These categories form major transitional zones across the countries highlighted in the highest rainfall category.

Moderate to Low Rainfall (Orange & Yellow)

  • Low Rainfall (6–10 mm & 11–25 mm): These values typically ring the high-rainfall areas and transition into the driest zones. They are concentrated over:
    • All countries in the GHA region except Rwanda and Burundi.

Very Low or No Rain (White & Light Grey)

  • Very Low Rainfall (1–5 mm): Forms a major transitional zone in northeastern Sudan, South Sudan, parts of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda and central Tanzania.
  • Negligible/No Rain (<1 mm or No Data): These dry conditions dominate Sudan, South Sudan, northern parts of Ethiopia, northeastern Somalia, northwestern parts of Kenya and central Tanzania.
Recent rainfall anomalies

Wetter Than Normal Conditions (Green and Light Green)

  • Much Wetter than Normal (Dark Green): Concentrated heavily over the northeastern parts of Sudan, South Sudan, parts of Eritrea, Djibouti, central to eastern parts of Kenya, southwestern parts of Uganda, Burundi, and western as well as coastal parts of Tanzania.
  • Wetter than Normal (Light Green): Forms a wide band surrounding the darkest green area, covering most of countries highlighted above.

Near Normal Conditions (Light Blue)

  • Near Normal: Predominantly observed in equatorial parts of the region including Uganda, Somalia, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.

Drier Than Normal Conditions (Yellow and Orange)

  • Drier than Normal (Yellow) and Much Drier than Normal (Orange): These conditions dominate the northern of the region.
    • Significant drier areas cover most of central South Sudan, northwestern Eritrea, several parts of Ethiopia, Somalia, northwestern Kenya, and central Tanzania.
    • The orange ('Much drier than normal') is evident across most of the countries highlighted.

No Rain (White)

  • No Rain: Indicated in the very northern and the dry parts of the region, particularly in Sudan, northern parts of South Sudan, Ethiopia, central parts of Somalia, northwestern Kenya as well as central Tanzania.
