Journalists–Scientists Dialogue on El Niño and the October–December 2026 Season
How can journalists communicate seasonal forecasts clearly and help audiences understand what they mean for preparedness?
ICPAC is convening a virtual dialogue bringing together journalists, editors, climate scientists and Member State forecasters to discuss the October–December (OND) 2026 rainfall season and strengthen accurate, accessible and action-oriented reporting across the IGAD region.
Member States will present their latest national OND forecasts, followed by ICPAC’s outlook on the drivers and implications for the rainfall season, including El Niño. The presentations will provide an opportunity to understand country-specific conditions, clarify forecast uncertainty and discuss what the outlook means for communities and decision-makers.
Journalists will also share their reporting experiences, audience concerns and information needs. An interactive discussion will explore how to distinguish seasonal outlooks from short-term weather forecasts and official warnings, and how to connect climate information with practical preparedness advice.
Join us to engage with scientists, ask questions and strengthen your reporting on weather and climate.
