The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), in collaboration with National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), the UK Met Office, NORCAP, Save the Children, and the WISER PASS East Africa project, is convening a series of national media engagement sessions across the Greater Horn of Africa to strengthen collaboration between meteorological services and the media.

The sessions will provide a platform for journalists, meteorologists and climate service practitioners to exchange knowledge and enhance the communication of weather, climate and early warning information. Participants will gain practical skills in interpreting weather and climate forecasts, understanding climate drivers and communicating forecast information and uncertainties in a way that supports informed decision-making and early action.

As climate-related hazards continue to affect communities across the region, the media plays a critical role in ensuring that weather and climate information reaches the right people at the right time. Through these engagements, ICPAC and its partners aim to strengthen the capacity of media professionals to accurately report on weather and climate issues, promote the use of local languages in climate communication, and support the delivery of people-centred early warning systems.

Implemented under the WISER PASS East Africa programme, the initiative contributes to regional efforts to strengthen climate services, early warning systems and climate resilience across the Greater Horn of Africa.
