- Below average to average conditions are expected over western Sudan, southern South Sudan, south-eastern Ethiopia, most parts of Somalia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Wetter than usual conditions are expected over most of Tanzania.
- Wetter than usual conditions are expected over much of Tanzania particularly over central, southern, and eastern parts of the country.
- Drier than usual conditions are expected over parts of north-western Tanzania and southern Burundi.
- The rest of the region is usually dry in January.
