Temperature Summary
  • On average, warmer conditions above 28℃ are expected over eastern and north-western (Turkana and Marsabit counties) Kenya, isolated regions of central Somalia, south-eastern Sudan, and Afar region of Ethiopia into coastal Eritrea.
  • Temperatures below 20℃ are expected in north-western Sudan which may influx cold northerly winds on the highland regions of Ethiopia as well as Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Rainfall Summary

Heavy Rainfall Advisory: Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia 

Considering the rainfall events during the past week over some areas in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, heavy rainfall is expected in northern Kenya, south-eastern Ethiopia, and southern and northern Somalia during this week. Stakeholders are advised to implement mitigation measures to avoid damages to infrastructure and livelihoods. 

  • Heavy rainfall between 100 - 200 mm (among the top 5% on record) is expected in northern Kenya, south-eastern Ethiopia, and southern and northern Somalia. A small area in south-western Somalia is expected to receive more than 200 mm (among the top 1% on record).
  • Moderate rainfall between 50 – 200 mm is expected to continue in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, north-western Tanzania; western and southern South Sudan; western, central, north-western and north-eastern Kenya; south-western Ethiopia, and southern Somalia. 
  • Dry conditions are expected in parts of north-western Kenya in Turkana, north-eastern Somalia, northern Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, and southern Tanzania.
