Rainfall forecast (anomalies)

Rainfall anomalies

  • More than usual rainfall expected over most parts of eastern South Sudan, northern Uganda, central to northern Ethiopia, and most parts of Eritrea and Djibouti.
  • Less than usual rainfall expected over parts of western South Sudan, eastern  and parts of western Sudan and south-eastern Uganda into south-western Kenya.
Temperature forecast (Anomalies)

Temperature anomalies

  • Warmer than usual temperatures expected over most parts of the GHA.
  • Cooler than usual temperatures expected over cross-border regions of South Sudan, Ethiopia and Sudan, and other isolated regions across the GHA. 
Heavy rainfall
  • Rainfall exceeding the 90th percentile (the highest 10% on record)expected over parts of southern Sudan, eastern South Sudan, northern Uganda, northern and western Ethiopia, and central to western Eritrea.  
Floods update
  • There is a likelihood of Flooding incidences over the flood prone areas in north-eastern Ethiopia, central western Sudan and eastern South Sudan.
Temperature forecast

Mean temperatures

  • High temperatures (> 32℃) expected over parts of northern Sudan, Afar region in Ethiopia, and regions along the Red Sea coast.  
  • Moderate to high temperatures (20-32℃) expected over most parts of Somalia, South Sudan, central to northern Uganda, eastern and northern Kenya, southern Sudan, south-eastern Ethiopia, and parts of eastern and western Tanzania. 
  • Mild temperature conditions (less than 20℃) expected over most parts of Rwanda, western Kenya, central and southern Tanzania, and central Ethiopia.  
Heat Stress

Heat Stress

  • Elevated heat stress levels expected in parts of Afar region in Ethiopia, coastal regions along the Red Sea and most parts of eastern and northern Sudan.   
Rainfall forecast

Total rainfall

  • Heavy rainfall (above 200mm) expected over parts a few regions in southern Sudan, northern Ethiopia, and north-eastern South Sudan.  
  • Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over most parts of South Sudan, central to northern Ethiopia, western Eritrea, southern Sudan, northern Uganda and parts of western Kenya.  
  • Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over Djibouti, central and northern Sudan, northern and southern Somalia, coastal Kenya, and eastern regions of Tanzania.
