Temperature
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than normal temperatures expected in the region except isolated regions in eastern South Sudan, few regions in central to southern Ethiopia, central and western Kenya, and western parts of Tanzania where cooler than normal temperatures are expected.
Rainfall anomalies
- Wetter than normal conditions expected over southern Sudan, most parts of South Sudan, western Ethiopia, eastern Uganda, and a few areas in western Kenya and southern coastal Somalia.
Exceptional rainfall
- Heavy to very heavy (top 10 - 5%) rainfall expected over few isolated regions in western Ethiopia, southern Sudan, and north-western South Sudan.
Mean temperature
- Hot conditions with temperatures above 32 ℃ expected over central, northern and eastern Sudan; north eastern Ethiopia; and parts of Eritrea, Djibouti and north-eastern Somalia.
- Moderate temperatures between 20 - 32 ℃ expected over southern and western Sudan, South Sudan, central to northern Uganda, south-eastern and northern Ethiopia, Somalia, northern and eastern Kenya, and parts of western and eastern Tanzania.
- Cold conditions with temperatures less than 20℃ expected in parts of central to southern Ethiopia, central to western Kenya, southern Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and parts of central to western Tanzania.
Total rainfall
- Moderate rainfall (50 - 200 mm) expected over a few places in southern Sudan, most parts of South Sudan, western Ethiopia, and part of western Kenya.
- Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over southern Sudan, south-eastern South Sudan, much of Uganda, north-western Eritrea, parts of northern and southern Somalia, and a few places in coastal and southern Tanzania.
- Dry conditions expected over northern Sudan, most parts of Eritrea, Djibouti; north-eastern, southern and south-eastern Ethiopia; central Somalia, much of Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and most parts of Tanzania.
