Temperature
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than normal temperatures expected in the majority of the regions of the Greater Horn of Africa, including Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Uganda, western and northern Kenya, northern South Sudan, central Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi.
- Cooler than normal temperatures expected in a few regions in western and southern Tanzania, coastal parts of Kenya, and Somalia.
Mean temperature
- Hot conditions (temperatures above 32 ℃ ) expected in central to eastern South Sudan, and a few parts of southern Sudan and south-western Ethiopia.
- Moderate temperatures (between 20 - 32 ℃) expected over most of Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, Uganda, and Djibouti.
- Relatively cold conditions (temperatures less than 20℃) expected in parts of central Ethiopia, northern Somalia, northern Sudan, western Kenya, southern Tanzania, and western regions of Rwanda and Burundi.
Rainfall anomalies
- More than normal rainfall expected over western South Sudan and parts of central and southern Tanzania.
- Less than normal rainfall expected over Rwanda, Burundi, southern Kenya, and parts of northern and south-western Tanzania.
Exceptional rainfall
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (top 10-5%) expected over parts of south-eastern Tanzania, especially in Morogoro, Lindi, and Mtwara.
Total rainfall
- Moderate rainfall (50-100mm) expected in western Burundi, and most parts of central to southern Tanzania.
- Light rainfall (less than 30 mm) expected over northern Tanzania, Rwanda, eastern Burundi, and western South Sudan.
- Dry conditions expected in Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, northern and eastern South Sudan, eastern Uganda, most parts of Kenya, and Somalia.
