Temperature Forecast 12 - 19 Jan

  • Warm temperatures above 28 ℃ are expected in most of South Sudan, South Kordofan and Blue Nile states in Sudan, Turkana region in Kenya, parts of eastern Kenya, south-western Somalia, and parts of eastern Tanzania including Pwani, Lindi and Morogoro.
  • Moderate conditions in the range of 20 - 28℃ are expected in most of Sudan, western South Sudan, central to northern Uganda, much of eastern and northern Kenya, central and southern Somalia; southern, north-eastern and western Ethiopia , Djibouti, much of Eritrea, and much of Tanzania.
  • Relatively cold conditions with temperatures less than 20℃ are expected in regions of north-western Sudan, central Ethiopia, northern Somalia, western Kenya, all of Rwanda and Burundi, a few areas in Uganda, and Tanzania.

Headline: Wetter conditions are expected in most of Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi.

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall (top 10% to 5% on record) is expected in central Burundi, and few places in western, central to northern Tanzania.
  • Rainfall amounts between 50 -100 mm are expected over much of Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, isolated regions in southern Uganda, south-western Kenya, and south-eastern Tanzania. 
  • Rainfall amounts up to 30 mm are expected in isolated regions including central Ethiopia and coastal regions of Sudan; Eritrea, northern Somalia, and Kenya. 
  • Dry conditions are expected in the northern parts of the region including northern Uganda, much of Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Sudan (except the coastal region). 

Note: 1 mm of rainfall is equivalent to 1 litre of rainfall per square meter.
