  • Warm temperatures above 32℃ are expected in eastern and southern parts of Sudan (Kassala, Al Qadarif, Sennar, White Nile, West Kurdufan and East Darfur), Afar region in Ethiopia, parts of Djibouti, and northern coastal regions of Somalia.
  • Moderate temperatures between 20 - 32℃ are expected in central to northern Sudan, South Sudan, central to northern Uganda, eastern and northern Kenya, Somalia; parts of southern, western and eastern Ethiopia; and parts of south-eastern and north-western Tanzania. 
  • Relatively cold conditions with temperatures less than 20℃ are expected in central Ethiopia, parts of central and western Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, southern Uganda; and parts of central, western and southern Tanzania.

Rainfall Forecast 19 - 26 May

Headline: Heavy to very rainfall expected over Jimma, Illubabor and Sheka regions of Ethiopia. Reduction in rainfall is expected in most regions of Eastern Africa. 

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall over 200 mm (top 10% to 5% on record) is expected in a few areas of Ethiopia (Jimma, Illubabor and Sheka).
  • Moderate to heavy rainfall between 50 - 200 mm is expected in central and western South Sudan, a few regions in south-western Sudan, and south-western Ethiopia. 
  • Light rainfall of less than 30 mm is expected in much of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, parts of southern and northern Tanzania, western and coastal Kenya, southern and northern Somalia, parts of western and southern Ethiopia, southern Sudan, and parts of eastern, northern and western South Sudan. 
  • Dry conditions are expected in central Tanzania, much of Kenya, eastern and southern Ethiopia, central Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and much of Sudan.
