Temperature
Exceptional rainfall
- Heavy rainfall (reaching 90th percentile) expected in parts of central Kenya and north-western and southern Tanzania.
Rainfall anomalies
- Wetter than usual conditions expected over southern and north-western Tanzania, western Rwanda, central Kenya, western Uganda, southern and western South Sudan, and central to south-western Ethiopia.
- Drier than usual conditions expected in central to eastern Tanzania, few places in Rwanda and Burundi, and south-eastern Uganda.
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than usual temperatures predicted over most parts of the region with exception of isolated areas in central Ethiopia and central Kenya.
Mean temperatures
- High temperatures (above 32℃) expected over northern to eastern South Sudan, and a few places in north-western Kenya.
- Moderate to high temperatures (20-32℃) expected over most parts of South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, western and eastern Ethiopia and Sudan.
- Mild temperature conditions (less than 20℃) expected over central Ethiopia, central Kenya, and western regions of both Rwanda and Burundi.
Heat Stress
- Elevated levels of heat stress expected in most parts of South Sudan, north-western and eastern Kenya, eastern Tanzania and southern Somalia.
Total rainfall
- Heavy rainfall (more than 200 mm) expected over few areas in southern Tanzania
- Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over most parts of Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, western parts of Uganda, central and few places over coastal and south-western Kenya, southern to central South Sudan, and a few areas in western Ethiopia.
- Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected in most parts of South Sudan, Uganda, parts of central and north-eastern Ethiopia, southern to central Kenya and southern and northern Somalia.
- Dry conditions expected over Sudan, north-western and south-eastern Ethiopia, northern Kenya, central Somalia and most parts of Eritrea.
