Temperature

Temperature forecast
  • Warm temperatures above 32 ℃ are expected in eastern and north-eastern South Sudan, south-eastern Sudan, western Ethiopia in Gambella; and border areas of Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Sudan. 
  • Moderate temperatures between 20 - 32 ℃ are expected in most parts of Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and southern, western and eastern Ethiopia. 
  • Relatively cold conditions with temperatures less than 20 ℃ are expected in central and northern Ethiopia, north-western Sudan, parts of central and western Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and south-western Tanzania.
Heavy rainfall
Exceptional to very heavy rainfall is expected over southern Tanzania. All stakeholders are advised to take appropriate mitigation measures to protect lives and livelihoods.
  • Very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (top 5 to 1% on record) and weekly total rainfall above 200 mm is expected in southern Tanzania.
  • Heavy rainfall (top 10% on record) and total rainfall between 100 - 200 mm is expected in southern and north-western Tanzania, western Burundi, and southern Rwanda.
  • Moderate rainfall between 50 - 100 mm is expected in central and northern Tanzania, eastern Burundi, northern Rwanda, southern Uganda, in localized areas of south-western Kenya, and western Ethiopia.
  • Light rainfall less than 30 mm is expected in southern and coastal Kenya, most areas of Uganda, southern and central South Sudan, western Ethiopia, central Eritrea and southern Somalia. 
  • Dry conditions are expected in Sudan, northern South Sudan, much of Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, northern and central Somalia, and northern Kenya.

Note: 1 mm of rainfall is equivalent to 1 litre of rainfall per square meter.
