Observed climate conditions for August to October (ASO) 2024
Rainfall
Moderate to high rainfall amounts of exceeding 800mm was observed in a few isolated parts of western Ethiopia.
Moderate rainfall amounts of between 201-800mm were observed in the southern parts of Sudan, in several parts of South Sudan and Uganda, in western Eritrea, in northwestern, western and central Ethiopia, in western parts of Kenya, and in western Rwanda.
Light rainfall between 11 - 200 mm was observed in the western to eastern parts of Sudan, in coastal, central and southern parts of Eritrea, in much of Djibouti, in several parts of Somalia, in northeastern, eastern and southern parts of Ethiopia, in parts of central and coastal Kenya, in central to eastern Rwanda, in several parts of Burundi, and in northwestern, and eastern Tanzania.
No rainfall or less than 10mm was observed in northern parts of Sudan, in parts of northeastern and central Somalia, in parts of northeastern, eastern, and southern parts of Kenya, and in central and southern Tanzania.
Drier than usual and much drier than usual conditions were observed in several parts of Somalia, in much of the eastern parts of Kenya, and in the Lake Victoria regions of Tanzania, and in parts of northeastern and southern Tanzania.
Wetter than usual and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in much of northern to central Sudan, in western and central Eritrea, in several parts of Djibouti, in northwestern part of Somalia, in northeastern and southwestern parts of Ethiopia, in southwestern part of South Sudan extending to northwestern Uganda, and in the western parts of Tanzania.
No rain condition was observed in isolated areas in the far northern parts of Sudan, in parts of northwestern Kenya, and in central Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
Moderately dry to severely dry conditions were observed in several parts of Somalia, and Kenya, in southeastern parts of Sudan, in parts of northern, western and eastern South Sudan, in southwestern Uganda, in some parts of Rwanda and Burundi, and in northwestern, northeastern and southern Tanzania.
Moderate to extremely wet rainfall conditions were observed in the northern to central parts of Sudan, in western and central parts of Eritrea, in several parts of Djibouti, in northeastern, central and southwestern parts of Ethiopia, in northwestern Somalia, in southwestern parts of South Sudan, in northwestern Uganda, and in western Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in the rest of the region.
