Observed rainfall conditions for November to January (NDJ) 2023
Rainfall
Moderate to heavy rainfall (500 - 1000 mm) was observed over parts of southern Burundi, western Kenya, and in much of western Tanzania.
Moderate rainfall (200 - 500 mm) was observed in western, south-western and southern parts of Uganda, western and central parts of Kenya, much of Rwanda, northern parts of Burundi, and in north-western, central, eastern and southern parts of Tanzania.
Light rainfall (10 - 200 mm) was observed in several parts of Eritrea, coastal parts of Djibouti, several parts of Ethiopia, western and southern parts of South Sudan, northern and north-eastern parts of Uganda, much of northern and eastern parts of Kenya, and in central and southern parts of Somalia.
Dry conditions (usual during this time of the year) were observed in much of Sudan, northern South Sudan, parts of western Eritrea, parts of eastern Ethiopia, northern parts of Somalia, and in parts of north-western Kenya.
Wetter and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in a few places of the southern parts of South Sudan, north-central and western parts of Uganda, parts of western Kenya, and in western parts of Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in much of Sudan, central parts of South Sudan, several parts of Eritrea, western parts of Ethiopia, several parts of Uganda, parts of central, western and eastern Kenya, much of Rwanda and Burundi, and in several parts of Tanzania.
Drier and much drier than usual conditions were observed in much of northern and western South Sudan, western parts of Eritrea, much of Djibouti, several parts of Ethiopia, northern, central and southern Somalia, northern, eastern and south-eastern Kenya, and in some parts of north-eastern Tanzania.
Moderate to severely wetter than usual rainfall conditions were observed in southern parts of South Sudan, north-central and western parts of Uganda, parts of western Kenya, and western and north-western parts of Tanzania.
Moderately drier than usual to extremely dry conditions were observed in the central and southern parts of Eritrea, much of Djibouti, several parts of Ethiopia, northern parts of South Sudan, several parts of northern and southern Somalia, northern and south-eastern parts of Kenya, and in a few areas of north-eastern and southern Tanzania.
Usual rainfall conditions were observed in much of Sudan, central parts of South Sudan, north-western, central, eastern and southern parts of Uganda, western and far eastern parts of Ethiopia, parts of western Eritrea, parts of central and far southern Somalia, parts of central and eastern Kenya, much of Rwanda and Burundi, and in parts of northern, central and eastern Tanzania.
