Recent rainfall anomalies

Drier than and much drier than usual conditions were observed in Eritrea, Djibouti, northern and central Somalia, in several parts of Ethiopia, in southeastern South Sudan, in northern Kenya, in northeastern to southwestern Uganda, and in parts of central to southwestern Tanzania.

Wetter than and much wetter than usual conditions were observed in northwestern to central South Sudan, in western Ethiopia, in southern parts of Somalia extending to eastern and southeastern Kenya, in central parts of Kenya, in sparts of Burundi, and in parts of northwestern and eastern Tanzania.

No rainfall condition was observed mainly in Sudan.

Near normal rainfall condition was observed in much of the rest of the region.

Recent rainfall totals

High rainfall of between 100-200mm was recorded in some places in central Kenya and in coastal and southern part of Tanzania.

Moderate to high rainfall of between 26-100 mm was observed southwestern, central to eastern South Sudan, in western and southwestern Ethiopia, in southern parts of Somalia, in several parts of Uganda, in western, central eastern and coastal Kenya, in much of Rwanda and Burundi, and in northern, western eastern and southern Tanzania.

Light rainfall of between 6- 25 mm occurred in much of the northern and southeastern parts of South Sudan, in part of western Eritrea, in parts of central, western, eastern and southern Ethiopia, in central Somalia, in northeastern Uganda, in northern parts of Kenya, and in central parts of Tanzania

Standardized Precipitation Index

Moderately dry to severely dry conditions were observed in Eritrea, in parts of Djibouti, in northeastern, central to south-central Ethiopia, in southeastern South Sudan, in northern parts of Somalia in northeastern and western Uganda, in northwestern and north-central Kenya, and in isolated parts of central and southwestern Tanzania.

Moderately wet to severely wet conditions were observed in eastern and central parts of South Sudan, in western parts of Ethiopia, in southern parts of Somalia extending to eastern and coastal Kenya, I western part of Kenya, in several parts of Burundi, and in parts of northwestern, western and eastern Tanzania.
