Standardized Precipitation Index

Moderately wet to extremely wet conditions were observed in western and central parts of Eritrea, in southern parts of Sudan, in several parts of South Sudan and Somalia, in northwestern, western, southern and eastern Ethiopia, in southeastern parts of Uganda, in much of western, central, eastern, southern and northeastern Kenya, in southern Burundi, and in northwestern, northern and eastern parts of Tanzania.

Moderately dry to extremely dry conditions were observed in southwestern part of Uganda, in northern and eastern parts of Rwanda, and in parts of central and southern Tanzania.

Usual rainfall conditions were observed in much of the rest of the region.

Recent rainfall anomalies

Wetter than usual conditions were observed in western and central Eritrea, in much of South Sudan, in northwestern, western, southern and eastern Ethiopia, in several parts of Somalia and Kenya, in southeastern Uganda, southern Burundi, and in northern and eastern parts of Tanzania.

Drier than usual conditions were observed in southern Eritrea, in northeastern and central parts of Ethiopia, in parts of northwestern Kenya, in eastern and central Rwanda, and in central, western and southern Tanzania.

Usual rainfall conditions were observed in southeastern South Sudan, in several parts of Uganda, in northeastern Burundi, and in western parts of Rwanda.

No rainfall conditions were observed in several parts of Sudan, in parts of northeastern Ethiopia, central Tanzania, and northwestern Kenya.

Recent rainfall totals

Very heavy rainfall of between 200-300mm was observed in the central parts of Kenya.

Heavy rainfall of between 51-200 mm was observed in southwestern and south-central parts of Ethiopia, in southern parts of Somalia, in southwestern South Sudan, in northwestern and southeastern parts of Uganda, in northeastern, western, central, eastern southern and coastal parts of Kenya, in several parts of Burundi, and in northwestern, northeastern and northern coast of Tanzania.

Moderate to heavy rainfall of between 26 - 50 mm was observed in western and southern parts of South Sudan, in western and southeastern Ethiopia, in parts of Somalia, in parts of western and southwestern Uganda, and in several parts of Rwanda.

Light rainfall of between 5 - 25 mm was observed in eastern and southern parts of Sudan, in western and central parts of Eritrea, in northwestern and eastern parts of Ethiopia, in parts of northern Somalia, in northern and southeastern parts of South Sudan, in northeastern Uganda, northwestern Kenya, and in parts of southern Tanzania.

Usual dry rainfall was observed in several parts of Sudan, in southern and western parts of Eritrea, in parts of Djibouti, in northeastern parts of Somalia, in central and northeastern parts of Ethiopia, in parts of northwestern Kenya, and in central parts of Tanzania.
