Recent rainfall totals

  • Heavy rainfall (between 100-200 mm) observed in isolated areas in central Tanzania and highlands of western Kenya.
  • Moderate rainfall (between 50-100 mm) observed in most parts of central and Lake Victoria region of Tanzania, most parts of Burundi and Rwanda and south-eastern Uganda.
  • Light rainfall (between 25-50 mm) observed in costal parts and central of Kenya, south-western South Sudan, most parts of south-western and north-western Uganda.
  • Rainfall range between 5-25 mm observed over most parts of south-eastern of South Sudan, north-eastern Kenya, south-western Somalia, north-eastern Uganda, southern parts of Tanzania.
  • Usual dry (usually dry in this time of season) conditions in most parts of Sudan, central and northern parts of South Sudan, north-western and eastern parts f Ethiopia, western Eritrea, central and northern Somalia.
Recent rainfall anomalies

  • Much wetter than usual conditions observed over central and western Tanzania, highland of Lake Victoria region of Kenya.
  • Wetter than usual conditions observed in isolated areas in Rwanda and central Burundi, north-western Tanzania and central equatoria sub-county in South Sudan.
  • Usual rainfall conditions observed in Jongeli region of South Sudan, sporadic areas in south-western and north-western Uganda, south-western and north-eastern parts of Rwanda, south and northern Burundi and former costal region of Kenya.
  • Moderately drier than usual conditions observed in most parts of southern Ethiopia, central and north-eastern Kenya, southern Somalia and southern Tanzania
  • Much drier than usual conditions observed in sporadic areas in western Ethiopia, central Kenya, Southern Somalia and Karamoja region of Uganda.
Standardized Precipitation Index

  • Moderately to severely wet conditions observed over central and northern parts of Tanzania, highlands of Lake Victoria region of Kenya.
