Rainfall
- Moderate to heavy rainfall (between 100 - 200 mm) was not recorded in the third dekad of May 2021.
- Moderate rainfall (between 50 - 100 mm) observed in southwest parts of South Sudan, southwestern part of Ethiopia in isolated part of northwest Uganda, and in central coast of Tanzania.
- Light rainfall (between 25 - 50 mm) observed in western and central parts of South Sudan, western parts of Ethiopia, northern Uganda, western and central highlands of Kenya, and in coastal parts of Tanzania.
- Rainfall range (between 5 - 25 mm) observed over southern parts of Sudan, northern and eastern South Sudan, northwest, central, and southern Ethiopia, southeastern Somalia and isolated parts of northwest Somalia, southern Uganda, coastal and several parts of central and western Kenya, Burundi, western and southern Rwanda, and in northern and eastern parts of Tanzania.
- Usual dry (usually dry in this time of season) observed in almost all of Sudan, Djibouti, most parts of Eritrea, northeast and eastern parts of Ethiopia, several parts of north and eastern Kenya, southwest Uganda, northeast Rwanda, over much of central and northern Somalia, and over much of western and central Tanzania.
- Much wetter than usual conditions was not observed in any part of the region.
- Wetter than usual conditions observed southeast part of Tanzania and a few patchy parts of central South Sudan.
- Usual rainfall conditions observed over southwest and central South Sudan, northwestern Uganda, isolated parts of southwest Kenya, and northcentral central and southeast Tanzania.
- Moderately drier than usual conditions observed in western Eritrea, southern parts of Sudan, most parts of Ethiopia and Somalia, northern and eastern South Sudan, much of southern, central and eastern Uganda, much of Kenya and Burundi, western and southern Rwanda, and in northeast and northwest Tanzania.
- Much drier than usual conditions observed over northwest, and in isolated parts of eastern Ethiopia, isolated parts of northwest and central Somalia, southwest and southeast Uganda, and northeast Rwanda.
- Moderately wetter to severely wettest than usual conditions observed in isolated parts southeast Tanzania.
- Usual rainfall conditions observed over most parts of north and central Sudan, western central and southern South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, south and northeast Ethiopia, northern Uganda, north, central, east and southern Kenya, central and southwestern Somalia, central and southern Burundi, and north central and southern parts of Tanzania.
- Moderately drier to severely driest than usual conditions observed over southern parts of Sudan, northern South Sudan, western, central and eastern Ethiopia, northern and southeast Somali, southern and central Uganda, western and coastal Parts of Kenya, Rwanda, northern Burundi, western and northeastern Tanzania.
