Moderate to high Rainfall of between (26-200mm)

  • These were observed mostly in the northern parts of the region including western Ethiopia, the border regions of Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia, western South Sudan and southern Sudan. A few pocket areas in western and coastal parts also received rainfall in this category.

Moderate to Low Rainfall of between (6mm–25mm)

  • These were observed in the regions surrounding the moderate and high rainfall including the coastal parts of Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, western Kenya, several parts of Uganda, and Eritrea.

Very Low or No Rain Very Low Rainfall (1–5mm)

  • These were observed in most parts of the region including Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea.

Wetter Than Normal to much wetter than normal Conditions

  • Much wetter than Normal: This category was observed in western South Sudan, southwestern, central and southeastern Sudan, western Ethiopia.
  • Wetter than Normal: This category was observed in areas surrounding the darkest green areas, covering most of countries highlighted above.

Near Normal Conditions

  • Predominantly observed along the coastal parts of Kenya and Somalia, South Sudan, western Ethiopia, Sudan, and western Eritrea.

Drier Than Normal Conditions

  • These conditions were observed along the coastal regions of Kenya and Somalia, western Kenya, eastern and northern parts of Uganda, southern parts of South Sudan, several parts of Ethiopia, northern Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and central parts of Sudan.

Much Drier Than Normal Conditions

  • These conditions were observed in Tanzania, pockets in Burundi, western Rwanda, southern parts of Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea and Sudan.

No Rain

  • Observed in Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, northern Ethiopia, parts of Eritrea and Sudan.
