Recent rainfall anomalies

Wetter than Normal to much wetter than normal Conditions

  • Much wetter than Normal: This category was observed in much of Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, southeastern and northern parts of Uganda, several parts of Kenya, southeastern parts of South Sudan, southern to southeastern parts of Ethiopia, eastern Eritrea, Djibouti and several parts of Somalia.
  • Wetter than Normal: This category was observed in areas surrounding the darkest green areas including in Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Somalia.

Near Normal Conditions

  • Predominantly observed in a few areas in Tanzania, Uganda southeastern South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Kenya.

Drier Than Normal Conditions

  • These conditions were observed in South Sudan, southern Sudan, northwestern parts of Ethiopia, western Eritrea, and coastal parts of Somalia.

No Rain

Observed in the very northern and the dry parts of the region, particularly in Sudan, a few areas Somalia.

Recent rainfall totals

High Rainfall Accumulation (101-300mm)

  • Highest Rainfall (201-300mm): These amounts were recorded mostly in the southern parts of Ethiopia and a few areas in northern Kenya.
  • High Rainfall (101-200mm): These amounts were recorded in southern and western parts of Tanzania, southeastern Uganda, western, central and northern parts of Kenya, and southern as well as western parts of Ethiopia.

Moderate to high Rainfall (26-100mm)

  • These were observed over most parts of the region including in Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.

Moderate to Low Rainfall of between (6mm–25mm)

  • These were observed in South Sudan, several parts of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, northeastern and southeastern parts of Kenya and central Tanzania.
  • Very Low or No Rain Very Low Rainfall: These were observed in much of the northern sectors of the region including Sudan, western Eritrea, Somalia, northern South Sudan, and northwestern Ethiopia.
