Since 2022, the Greater Horn of Africa transitioned from a regional Desert Locust upsurge to localized outbreaks, managed through effective control, dry periods, and enhanced regional readiness. Guided by IFRAH and the Inter-Regional Platform, IGAD strengthens cross-border early warning and coordination to intercept localized risks before they escalate.
