Observed rainfall conditions for August to October (ASO) 2021
Rainfall
- Heavy rainfall exceeding 1000 mm was not recorded in the region.
- Moderate rainfall between 500 - 1000 mm was observed over western part of Ethiopia, western South Sudan, and isolated parts of western Kenya.
- Light rainfall between 200 - 500 mm was observed in southern parts of Sudan, over much of South Sudan, central parts of Ethiopia, over much of Uganda, in western Rwanda, north-western Burundi, and in western and central Kenya.
- Rainfall between 10 - 200 mm was observed over central parts of Sudan, much of Eritrea, Djibouti, southern and eastern Ethiopia, Somalia, north and eastern parts of Kenya, eastern Rwanda, most of Burundi, and much of Tanzania.
- Dry conditions (usual during this time of the year) were observed in northern parts of Sudan, north-eastern and central parts of Somalia, northern Kenya, and central and south-western Tanzania.
- Wetter than usual conditions were observed in a few isolated places in western Kenya, eastern Sudan, several parts of Djibouti, eastern Ethiopia, and in northern Somalia.
- Usual rainfall conditions were observed in over much of Sudan, Eritrea, South Sudan, Uganda, western and central Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and north and western Tanzania.
- Moderately drier than usual conditions were observed in southern parts of Ethiopia, over much of Somalia, in northern and eastern Kenya, and in eastern and central parts of Tanzania.
- Moderate to severely wetter than usual rainfall conditions were observed in western parts of Sudan, north eastern Ethiopia, much of Djibouti, western Kenya, and western Burundi.
- Usual rainfall conditions were observed in much of the rest of Sudan, Eritrea, South Sudan, western and central Ethiopia, northern Somalia, east and central Uganda, central parts of Kenya, central Rwanda, eastern Burundi; and north, west and central Tanzania.
- Moderately drier than usual to severely dry conditions were observed in southern parts of Sudan, western South Sudan, southern Ethiopia, over much of Somalia, several parts of Kenya, in western and eastern Rwanda, and over several parts of eastern Tanzania.
