The Eastern Africa region faces numerous disasters, including droughts, floods, extreme heat, pests, diseases, conflicts, and economic instability, leading to large-scale displacement and severe impacts on lives and livelihoods. The prolonged drought from 2020 to 2023 and El Niño-induced flooding in 2023/24 have highlighted the need for Anticipatory Action (AA).
In 2023, the region reached about 3.6 million people with AA assistance and developed AA plans in seven countries, alongside a Regional AA roadmap. However, AA is still mainly supported by humanitarian agencies, and there is a need …
