GHACOF 58 - Climate Services for Early Action

GHACOFs bring together climate scientists, meteorologists and experts from multiple sectors to discuss the seasonal forecast for Eastern Africa.

May 25 09:00 AM - May 27 16:00 PM

The Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum brings together climate scientists, meteorologists, and experts from a number of socio-economic sectors. The forum discusses the climate impacts of the previous season, presents the seasonal outlook for the coming season, analyzes its potential impacts, and generates advisories for decision-makers.

The overall goal of the Forum is to reduce climate risks and support resilience to climate extremes.

GHACOF58 "Climate Services for Early Action” will release the forecast for the June to September (JJAS) 2021 season.

Side Event: Let’s talk about water: Interactive session on novel water forecasting for drylands

This event, led by the DOWN2EARTH project, showcases new model-derived seasonal forecasts of soil moisture, groundwater levels, and streamflow in dryland regions, intended to support multiple applications. To guide our research, we seek perspectives from attendees who find value in improved water forecasting to support decisions. We are interested to hear how this can benefit a range of specialisms and sectors. Direct participation is optional. Info: http://bit.ly/33OXjZv
