Weekly Forecast
At ICPAC we use the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) to produce our forecasts in a resolution of 10 x 10 Km. Our weekly forecasts are very popular and help stakeholders prepare for extreme weather, and mitigate risks associated with floods, drought or heavy rainfall.

Rainfall anomalies
- More than usual rainfall expected over parts of Rwanda, Burundi and a few areas in south-western Uganda, central Tanzania, and south-western Kenya.
- Less than usual rainfall expected over most parts of Tanzania and south-eastern Kenya.
Temperature anomalies
- Warmer than usual temperatures expected over most parts of the GHA.
- Rainfall exceeding the 90th percentile expected over a few regions of central Tanzania.
Mean temperatures
- Moderate to high temperatures (20-32℃) expected over most parts of the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA).
- Mild temperature conditions (less than 20℃) expected over northern Sudan, western regions of Burundi and Rwanda, south-western Uganda, central to western Kenya, central to northern Ethiopia and parts of northern Somalia.
Heat Stress
- Elevated heat stress levels expected in eastern regions of Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and south-eastern Somalia.
Total rainfall
- Moderate rainfall (50-200mm) expected over most parts of Rwanda, Burundi and central to western Tanzania.
- Light rainfall (less than 50 mm) expected over most parts of Uganda, western and coastal Kenya, and eastern Tanzania.
