FSRP – Additional Financing

Food Systems Resilience Program for Eastern and Southern Africa (FSRP) – Additional Financing

Strengthening regional early warning systems for resilient food systems and climate-informed decision-making.

The Food Systems Resilience Program for Eastern and Southern Africa (FSRP) – Additional Financing seeks to strengthen regional disaster risk management and food systems resilience across the IGAD region by enhancing the capacity of institutions to anticipate, monitor, and respond to climate, agricultural, and food security threats. The project transforms early warning systems into integrated, data-driven decision support systems through the use of Earth observation technologies, automated weather stations, geospatial analytics, and interoperable data platforms. By strengthening regional coordination and institutional capacity, the project seeks to enable governments and partners to make timely, evidence-based decisions that protect livelihoods and improve resilience to climate shocks and transboundary risks.

Our Areas of Work

Data and Early Warning Systems

The project seeks to strengthen regional early warning systems by integrating Earth observation technologies, satellite imagery, automated weather stations, field observations, and socio-economic data. It will establish interoperable data systems that provide timely, accurate, and actionable information to support food security monitoring and disaster risk management.

Forecasting and Risk Analysis

The FSRP project seeks to enhance the monitoring and forecasting of crop conditions, rangelands, climate variability, and transboundary pests through advanced geospatial technologies, predictive modelling, and climate impact assessments. These efforts will improve risk analysis and support timely anticipatory action.

Capacity Development

The project will focus on building the technical and institutional capacity of IGAD Member States through training, knowledge exchange, and practical application of geospatial technologies, analytical modelling, forecasting tools, and early warning systems to strengthen preparedness and decision-making.

Knowledge Management and Regional Collaboration

The project seeks to promote regional collaboration by strengthening knowledge sharing, improving data interoperability, and supporting communities of practice that facilitate cross-border learning and coordinated action.

Policy and Governance

The project will strengthen governance of early warning systems by supporting policy harmonisation, standardising decision-making processes, and fostering multi-stakeholder coordination. It will also promote the integration of scientific evidence into policy and planning to enhance regional resilience and food systems governance.
