Advancing Climate Solutions for Resilient Agrifood Systems and Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa
The AGRA–ICPAC project, Enhancing the Preparedness of African Countries/Regions for Climate Change Solution Planning and Implementation Capacity, seeks to strengthen the resilience and climate adaptation of agrifood systems across Africa. Through capacity building, youth and women empowerment, climate information services, and regional collaboration, the project supports countries and institutions in planning and implementing effective climate solutions. The initiative also promotes youth engagement in climate action, strengthens support for National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and enhances cooperation among African Regional Climate Centres to improve the quality and reach of climate services.
Our Areas of Work
Youth Empowerment and Climate Leadership
Empowering young people to become active drivers of climate action and resilient agrifood systems across Africa. The project strengthens youth participation in the climate services value chain through capacity building, innovation, leadership development, and engagement in policy and decision-making processes. It also supports green job creation, entrepreneurship, and the adoption of climate-smart solutions that contribute to sustainable development and climate resilience.
Climate Services for Agrifood Systems
Enhancing the delivery and use of climate services to support climate-resilient agrifood systems across Africa. The project improves access to timely and actionable climate information, strengthens climate-informed decision-making, and promotes the integration of climate services into agricultural planning, risk management, and livelihood strategies to improve productivity, resilience, and food security.
Climate Change Adaptation and Policy Support
Supporting countries and institutions to strengthen climate change adaptation planning and implementation through technical assistance, capacity development, and evidence-based climate information. The project promotes the development and implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), while enhancing access to climate knowledge, fostering stakeholder engagement, and advancing climate-resilient development across Africa.
Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing
Strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of stakeholders through training, regional dialogues, knowledge exchange, and learning platforms. The project promotes the sharing of expertise, best practices, and innovative approaches to enhance climate services, support climate adaptation planning, and build resilient agrifood systems across Africa.
Climate Data, Information and Decision Support
Enhancing the availability, accessibility, and use of climate data, information, and knowledge to support evidence-based decision-making. The project strengthens climate information systems, promotes data visualisation and knowledge-sharing tools, and improves access to actionable climate services that support adaptation planning, climate investments, and resilient agrifood systems across Africa.
Regional Climate Centres (RCCs) Collaboration and Partnerships
Strengthening collaboration among African RCCs, climate institutions, and development partners to improve the quality, consistency, and accessibility of climate services across the continent. The project promotes knowledge sharing, joint learning, harmonisation of forecasting methodologies, and the establishment of communities of practice to advance innovation, strengthen institutional partnerships, and support coordinated climate action in Africa.
